Moms and Dads, dengue has continued to be a significant health issue in Indonesia. Every year, thousands of dengue cases are reported, and prevention efforts and control continues to keep on going to reduce the impact. Based on the data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, here is an overview of the dengue cases and deaths in 2022 and 2023 up to week 19.4

 

Year 2022: 

In 2022, there were 143,266 cases of dengue in Indonesia. These cases include individuals diagnosed that were reported to the health authorities. The cases occurred in various regions of Indonesia, with different severity levels and geographical distribution. Additionally, there were 1,237 deaths associated with dengue in 2022. This death toll highlights the serious consequences of dengue and underscores the importance of prevention, control, and proper management of dengue cases. Quite astonishing, isn't it, Moms and Dads!

 

Year 2023: 

In 2023, up to week 19, there were 31,380 cases of dengue reported in Indonesia. This figure represents the number of confirmed and reported cases during that period, indicating that dengue continues to be a serious and noteworthy issue!

Regarding deaths due to dengue, in 2023 up to week 19, there were 226 deaths recorded. Each death related to dengue remains a significant loss, reminding us all the importance of proper treatment, intensive monitoring, and effective prevention, Moms and Dads.

 

Five Districts/Cities with the Highest Dengue Cases in 2023 up to Week 19

Every year, thousands of dengue cases are reported in various regions of Indonesia. Based on the available data up to week 19 in 2023, there are five districts/cities with the highest number of dengue cases. The following are the districts/cities along with the number of cases:4

The city of Bandung recorded a total of 928 cases of dengue, while Denpasar City in Bali reported 891 cases. In the province of West Nusa Tenggara, Bima District registered 575 cases, Balikpapan City in East Kalimantan recorded 465 cases, and Sikka District in East Nusa Tenggara reported 459 cases of dengue. This highlights the needs for comprehensive prevention of the dengue in these areas.4

 

Efforts in Prevention and Public Awareness

 

To address the issue of dengue Moms and Dads, the effort of prevention and public awareness must remain as the primary focus. We need to obtain accurate information about this disease, including signs and symptoms, preventive measures, and the importance of seeking timely medical consultation and care when experiencing symptoms of dengue.

 

Let's implement the 3M Plus approach (Menguras, Menutup, Mendaur Ulang) which is Drain, Cover, Recycle, along with avoiding mosquito bites to prevent dengue fever and consulting with your doctor about dengue vaccines is also an important step in integrated prevention.1 In addition to implementing 3M Plus, vaccination can help protect against the risk of dengue.3 

 

Dengue vaccination is a preventive measure that enhances the immune system against the dengue virus. In prevention efforts, it is advisable to follow the recommended vaccination schedule and consult with a doctor or competent healthcare professional.4 By combining the 3M Plus steps and vaccination, we can protect ourselves and the surrounding environment from the risks of dengue, Moms and Dads!
